I’m not entirely sure why the majority of my childhood memories are dictated by the kind of sandwich I was eating at the time but I always remember eating (and not enjoying) strawberry jam sandwiches at the Joburg Zoo. The past few weeks however I’ve had way better zoo experiences.
Last Saturday I went to the zoo for my friend Cherrys birthday, we each paid R70 and got a guided tour of the zoo at night, plus a bon fire and marshmallows. Although the tour was only a couple of hours it was well worth having a guide…beats an information board any day!
Yesterday accompanied by picnic basket with tasty treats (no strawberry jam this time!) me and my friend watched Shakespeare Dreaming, a wickedly funny parody of Shakespeare’s style. It really was awesome to sit under the trees eating cupcakes and Grapetizer while watching some of the best SA actors fool around on stage all the while listening to the smooth tones of Timothy Maloi and co. Definitely one of the best evenings out in a while!
So do it! Grab a friend and go to the zoo, you might get a big surprise!
